BULLFIGHT - STIERENVECHTEN

BULLFIGHT

Dangle a muleta as a real matador (use par example a red towel). Invite your dog to attack the muleta. Just as he thinks he can catch it, flap it to another side or hold it in the air. Be enthusiastic: Olé. Your dog wins this game if he catches the muleta. Let him play for a few seconds with his ‘prey’.
You can also wrap the muleta over his head when he makes his moves beneath it. Now the dog can’t see you. Pretend that you are looking for him en play peekaboo. Shout: where is … (fill in his name) See how fast your dog frees his head again.

STIERENVECHTEN

Wapper als een onvervalste matador met een muleta waardoor de hond de 'rode lap' wil aanvallen. Net voordat jouw hond de lap te pakken krijgt, hou je ‘m hoger of zwaai je ‘m de andere kant op. Roep telkens enthousiast: Olé. De hond wint als hij de muleta vastgrijpt. Laat hem er kort mee prooi schudden. Geef het commando 'los', ga weer in positie staan en herhaal bovenstaand net zolang totdat je hond het spelletje moe is.
Door de muleta over zijn hoofd te draperen kun je ook het spelletje ‘kiekeboe’ spelen. Veins alsof je je hond zoekt en roep: waar is … nou?

DIG IT - SCHATGRAVEN

DIG IT

Necessities:  a garden, a plastic bottle, a treat

Is your dog a born digger? Sent him treasure hunting in the garden: a search for the bottle. Point out an area where he is allowed to dig. Dig a pit, or better, let the dog do it. Bury a little plastic bottle with a cookie inside in it and shovel it up. Let’s excavate!

SCHATGRAVEN

Benodigdheden: een tuin, plastic flesje, koekje

Houdt jouw hond van graven, maar behoeft je tuin geen hovenier meer? Wijs dan een hoekje in de tuin aan waar hij naar hartenlust zijn gang kan gaan. Om deze toegestane zone extra aantrekkelijk te maken, doe je wat brokjes in een plastic flesje (zo worden ze niet klef). Graaf een kuil, of nog beter, laat je hond het doen. Stop het flesje in het gat en gooi zand erover. De graafwerkzaamheden kunnen beginnen.

MOUNTAINEERING

This is a stunning game for on the way or at the end of the walk. Walking towards stairs, a steep hillside, sand pile or slope? Race with your dog who’s first at the top. Speak loud: Race you! The one that first puts a leg or paw on top wins. Bet that the both of you become more and more fanatical!

A young, athletic dog will always be faster than its boss. Grant your senior dog, who is less mobile and slower, a head start. Wish him joy of it!

Time to go home, but not according to your dog? This is  a  challenge he cannot resist!

BERGBEKLIMMEN

Dit is een spannend spelletje voor onderweg of aan het einde van de wandeling, mits er natuurlijk een trapje, hellinkje of (zand)heuvel aanwezig is. Race met je hond wie als eerste de top bereikt. Winnaar is diegene die als eerste een poot of voet bovenaan zet. Wedden dat jullie allebei steeds fanatieker worden en willen winnen?

Een jonge, energieke hond zal altijd sneller zijn dan zijn baasje. Geef je senior of minder beweeglijke langzame hond daarom eens een flinke voorsprong of laat hem ook eens winnen. Is jouw hond er zo eentje die nooit naar huis wil gaan? Deze uitdaging aan het einde van een wandeling kan hij beslist niet weerstaan.

BROOMING - BEZEMEN

BROOMING

Take a broomstick in your hand, keep him low above the ground. Let the dog jump over it. Now rotate while holding the broom horizontal. The dog follows your circle and jumps hurdles. Or do the limbo trick: stand still and hold the pole. The dog needs to lower his body to crawl under the pole.

BEZEMENNeem een bezemsteel in je hand, houd hem laag boven de grond en cirkel zelf om je as. Het is de bedoeling dat de hond het rondje mee rent door er steeds over heen springen of juist tegen de keer in te springen. Of sta stil en houdt de bezem als een limbostok vast. De hond kruipt er nu onderdoor.

BOXING DAY - KIJKDOOS

BOXING DAY

A cardboard box can do excellent service as a playhouse for dogs. Cut several round holes where the dog can step in and out. Hide his toys in the box or put some treats in it to trigger the dog. Or show him yourself how to enter the box.

Invite your friends at this special day off.

Een kartonnen doos van bijvoorbeeld witgoed of meubels kan op een mooie zomerse dag uitstekend dienst doen als speelhuisje en schaduwplek. Snij diverse openingen in het karton waardoor de hond de doos in- en uitkan. Zelf mag je ook mee doen!

PLAY POOL - BILJARTEN

PLAY POOL

Necessities: a lot of tennis balls, a space with at least one wall

At first you roll just one tennis ball across the floor. The dog catches it. Now get a few more balls, roll them at the same time and set things going.

Play the game by bouncing the balls against a wall, just like they do on a billiard. Keep the balls in motion through kicking. Every time you do that, the dog releases the ball in his mouth and tries to catch another one.

Call it juggling when your dog catches high bouncing balls (at knee length) with its paws.

BILJARTEN

Rol een tennisbal over de grond. Als het goed is pakt de hond deze in de bek. Neem er dan nog een stuk of vier tennisballen bij en rol deze allemaal tegelijk over de grond. Liefst in een ommuurde ruimte zodat de ballen net als op een biljart tegen de muren terugkaatsen.

Zorg dat de ballen steeds in beweging blijven door er bijvoorbeeld steeds met je voet tegen te stoten. De hond zal de bal die hij in de bek heeft los laten en keer op keer een andere pakken. Zorg dat er actie blijft. Op een gegeven moment zal je zien dat de hond ook zijn poten gaat gebruiken om des te meer ballen te pakken te krijgen. Zeker bij stuiterende ballen op kniehoogte Noem het jongleren.

SHUFFLEBOARD - SJOELEN

SHUFFLEBOARD

Necessities: a hard(wood) floor, cookies shaped as discs.

An appetizing alternative for dogs. Slide the cookies towards the lying dog. He only has to open his mouth, catch and chew. Especially appreciated by lazy dogs.

Possibility: Only carpet as flooring? Lean a side table and slide a plush toy from above towards the beneath waiting dog.

SJOELEN

Benodigdheden: een glad vloeroppervlak, ronde koekjes in schijfvorm of brokjes.

Een appetijtelijk spelletje voor honden met weinig eetlust. De hond ligt op een gladde ondergrond zoals zeil of parket. Glijd een voor een brokjes als sjoelschijfjes richting de liggende hond. Hij hoeft slechts zijn bek open te doen, vangen en kauwen. Zeer gewaardeerd door luie honden.

Mogelijkheid: Heb je geen gladvloeroppervlak, zet dan bijvoorbeeld een salontafeltje lichtjes schuin waar je pluche knuffeltjes van af laat glijden.

WINDOW CLEANING

Do you find window cleaning a nuisance? Give the boring chore to your dedicated dog. He will love it. Especially when you put some yogurt or cream cheese on the window glass.

RAMEN LAPPEN

Ramen lappen een vervelend klusje? Niet als je wat kwark of yoghurt op de ruit smeert. Kijk maar eens hoe toegewijd je hond te werk gaat. Zelf nog even met een krant of wonderdoekje nawrijven en je ruiten glimmen weer als vanouds.

IT'S RAINING CATS & DOGS - HONDENWEER

Introducing an umbrella

Let your dog meet carefully with the scary umbrella. Slap it open and shut it again.

Put it on the ground. The dog can wobble the umbrella with its paws.

A straight up standing folded umbrella can be held as a tunnel.

Point the umbrella against a wall and make a hurdle. The dog jumps.

Let him do the limbo by creeping beneath it.

Learn your dog to walk around the standing umbrella as an English gentleman.

Kennismaken met de paraplu

Laat je hond voorzichtig kennismaken met de (enge) paraplu. Klap hem open en dicht.

Leg hem op de grond neer: de hond kan de paraplu met zijn poten laten wiebelen.

Een staande dichtgevouwen paraplu kan dienst doen als tunneltje. Geef het commando: ‘dóóór!’

Gebruik hem als horde om de hond overheen te laten springen. Zet de punt van de paraplu tegen een muur voor meer stabiliteit.

Wanneer je de lat hoger legt, gaat de hond juist omlaag. Zeker als je er een brokje onderdoor rolt. Zo verleidt u de hond de aangepaste versie van de limbo te dansen.

Je kan de hond leren om als een heuse English gentleman rondom de paraplu te stappen. Houd een koekje in de hand waarmee u het handvat van de plu vast heeft, geef het commando ‘omhoog’ en blijf zijn aandacht vasthouden. Loop nu stapje voor stapje samen in een cirkeltje rond de dichtgevouwen plu.

ROPE UP & UNTIE - ONTKNOPING

ROPE UP & UNTIE

Necessities: bench or a steady chair (with arm rest) or coffee table with holes in it. Pieces of rope or shoe laces or ribbon.

Tie lots of simple knots. When the dog gets the hang of it, you make them more difficult. Maybe your dog turns out a real Boy Scout!

Caution: keep an eye on your dog, he mustn’t swallow any rope, ribbon or lace.

ONTKNOPING

Benodigdheden: veters of koordjes, stevige stoel, tafel, bench

Voor pups met een passie voor schoenveters kun je (gebruikte) schoenveters of stukjes koord om stoel- of tafelpoten strikken. Maak het gaandeweg moeilijker door steeds ingewikkeldere of dubbele knopen te leggen. Misschien schuilt er wel een echte padvinder in jouw hond.

Tip: Voor een revaliderende hond kun je de veters als tijdverdrijf aan de tralies van de bench vastknopen. Blijf in de buurt en zorg dat de hond niets inslikt.

RACE TRACK - 8BAAN

RACE TRACK

Take a floss rope, squeaking toy or a dog treat in one hand. Make an outflanking movement around each leg as in the number 8. The dog follows your motion. Reward him as he gets a grasps of it. Use during practice a special command that you can apply later.

8BAAN

Neem een flostouw of een brokje of ander speeltje en maak omtrekkende bewegingen door je benen als het cijfer 8. Geef tijdens het oefenen een speciaal commando hiervoor dat je later kunt gebruiken als hij het heeft aangeleerd.  Men noemt dit ook wel weven of weaven (engelstalig).

FED BY THE BOTTLE - AAN DE FLES

FED BY THE BOTTLE

Feeding-time. Is your dog a quick eater? Let him work for his food! Create your own foodcilinder. Use a plastic bottle. Make on each side a little hole in the center. Put a wire through it. Put some chunks in it. Hold the container high, or suspend it on the top of his bench. Your dog has to turn the bottle upside down with his snout or paw, so the chunks will fall on the floor.

AAN DE FLES
Voedertijd. Is je hond een snelle eter? Maak dan je eigen voercilinder met een petfles. Boor aan een weerszijden, ongeveer in het midden, een gaatje op dezelfde hoogte en rijg er een draad door. Hang de cilinder op of hou hem vast. Het is de bedoeling dat de hond met zijn snuit of poten de fles omdraait, zodat de brokjes naar de opening glijden. Laat het aan zijn eigen inventiviteit over om de brokjes eruit te vissen. Je kunt zo'n flesje ook in de bench hangen.
