STORE SOCKS - SOKKEN OPBERGEN

Dog love socks. Whatever the smelly reason could be. Your dog can help you put away the socks in the drawer. He already knows where they should be stored, or hasn’t your dog stolen any? Pick it up, store it, close the drawer with your nose. Lend him a helping hand if needed. Repeat until the laundry-basket is empty.

Het is altijd weer een vraagteken bij het sorteren van de was: waar is toch die ene bijpassende sok gebleven? Om de een of andere geurige reden zijn honden dol op sokken. Een hond kan je dus goed helpen om de schone sokken in de la te leggen omdat hij weet waar ze thuishoren. Commando’s: pak vast, leg in de la (wijs het met je hand aan), los, sluit de la met je neus (touch). Duw een beetje mee. Herhaal tot de wasmand leeg is.

LAUNDRY DAY - MAANDAG WASDAG

Old fashioned but Monday is still laundry day. De pets pluche toys, towels and blankets need a regularly cleaning turn. An activity which you can let your dog do himself. Can your dog do an apport, than you can teach him to collect his laundry. He can sort it by the names you call them.  Show him how to put his stuff in the washing machine by demonstrating it once. Tell him to put it in the drum by holding your hand in it.

Ouderwets, maar maandag is nog steeds wasdag. De eigen knuffels of hondendekentjes hebben regelmatig een wasbeurt nodig. Leer de hond om zijn spulletjes zelf in de wasmachine of droger te stoppen en ze er weer uit te halen. Deze handeling kun je tevens gebruiken voor het opruimen van zijn knuffels in de daarvoor bestemde opbergmand. Kan je hond apporteren dan kan hij ook zijn spulletjes halen en een voor een in de wasmachine stoppen. Doe het een keer voor of houd je hand in de trommel om aan te geven waar de knuffel in moet.

GUIDE - LOODSEN

To fetch and retrieve a branch or bal out of the water. Almost every dog automatically returns it each time it’s thrown. But can you also lead your dog towards an object? Throw a branch, stick or bal not straight ahead but more to the left or right. Guide your dog ‘turn right’ and ‘turn left’ by naming the direction. Does the dog turn the right way, he deserves a compliment or thunderous applause. When he fetches the object, say 'catch’ and ‘good dog’.

Elke waterrat zal op de automatische piloot een weggegooide stok of bal uit het water halen. Door het object in plaats van recht naar voren, naar links of rechts te gooien, kun je de hond ‘links’  en ‘rechts’ aanleren. Gids de hond naar de stok of bal door de gevraagde richting te benoemen. Slaat de hond af, complimenteer hem dan. Op het moment dat de hond de stok of bal wil pakken, roep je ‘vast’ en ‘goed zo’ (of applaudisseer enthousiast).

TAKE OFF LAUNDRY - WAS AFHALEN

Necessities: 

clothes line / a piece of rope 

some pins (not too tight ones) 

several handkerchiefs / pieces of cloth / socks or washcloth where you can put a treat in

plastic glove / bag / tweezers.

Benodigdheden: 
waslijn / stuk touw 

wasknijpers (niet te strakke)

schone identieke zakdoeken, lapjes textiel

een plastic handschoen, zakje / pincet.

Pin several clean handkerchiefs on the clothes line. Dot it unseen and put a plastic bag over your hand (or use the tweezers) so no scent will be left behind. Except for one hanky. That’s the one your dog is gonna search for.

Hang enkele zakdoeken, sokken of lapjes (die je met een plastic zakje om je hand vasthoudt) ongezien aan een lijn. Aan 1 ervan wrijf je jouw geur. Je kunt ook  washandjes of sokken gebruiken waar je een Frolicje instopt. 

De hond moet het juiste doekje van de lijn halen. Eerst ruiken, dan trekken, en... hebbes.

Sniff around and smell, pull, and... gotcha!

Alternatief spelletje: zakdoekje leggen. Heb je geen waslijn er beschikking, dan kun je de doekjes ook op de grond leggen.

Alternative game: drop the handkerchief. Is a clothline not available, put clean pieces of cloth on the floor.

DROP CATCHER - DRUPPELVANGER

Catching water drops is a cooling game for jumpers. Spoon water with your hand and throw it in the air, sideways or in front of the dog. Attention please: not towards head and ears.

Dabbling with your feet (or hands) on the watersfront is a refreshing low activity for old dogs. You even can use a tub or sandbox that you use as swimming pool.

(Zoet)waterdruppels vangen is een verkwikkend spelletje voor actieve springers. Schep met je handen water omhoog, zijwaarts of voor de hond, zodat hij ernaar kan happen. Let op: nooit richting gezicht en oren.

Laag met je voeten of hand in het water wervelen is een verkoelend spelletje voor oudere honden. Je kunt het zelfs in een (zwem)badje in de tuin doen.

KNIPOGEN - WINK AN EYE

Leer je hond knipogen. Kijk hem recht in de ogen aan en knijp een oogje dicht. Doe dat overdreven door een wang hoog op te trekken. Blijf open, dicht herhalen. Op het moment dat hij terug knipoogt, klak je.
Een kalmerend signaal afgeven door beide ogen tegelijk kort gesloten te houden en weer te open zal de hond ook spiegelen. Honden gebruiken het onderling ook (zie foto).

Learn your dog to wink. Look him straight in the eyes and wink an eye. Overdo it a little by pulling your cheek way up. Clack at the same time your dog blinks back at you.

A calming sign is close both eyes at the same time. Open them and close again. Your dog will do the same. Dogs have also such a mutual understanding.
