You got my full attention. Please do it again!
You want to
divert your dog from whatever you don’t want him to do. Catch his attention by
playing ‘go hunt’. Dog trainer Suzanne Clothier invented it. It’s exciting and
it triggers your dog easily.
You can train your
dog inside the house. Put a blanket on the floor. To attract his attention you
throw one piece of kibble on it. Say: go hunt. The dog ofcourse will pick it
up. You throw, he catches or searches. That will get his interest. The second one you
throw further away. And so on and so.
Until he’s focused and nothing else matters anymore to him. Then you use it
outside. When he does something you don’t want him to do you throw a treat near
him. Say: go hunt. Then further away, so he has to run or jump. Keep him busy
for a while. The dog learns that instead of doing something ‘bad’ he’s doing
something positive. After a while ‘bad’ is not fun anymore, and turns is
something good (fun). After a while when he is go hunt crazy, you can replace
treats by toys or whatever he likes to fetch (f.e. a tussock of grass. Throw in
a treat now and then.
Je wilt je hond om wat
voor reden ook afleiden van iets dat je niet wilt dat hij doet. Vang zijn aandacht door middel van
een terugkerend interactief lokmiddel: gooi een balletje of brokje van de hond
af op een paar meter bij u vandaan. Gaat de hond op de uitnodiging in, herhaal
het dan een paar maal. Verbind er een commando aan: ‘we gaan gooien’ of
‘zoeken’. Zodra het enthousiasme en de routine erin zitten, hoeft u alleen maar
het woord te gebruiken en uw hond zal enthousiast aanstormen om dit
